Focus on the Right Fruit, Not Just More Fruit & Most fruits are like vegetables dipped in sugar

Listen

Note 1

As with every other type of food, not all fruits are created equal. Some fruits, such as berries (like blueberries and strawberries) and citrus (like oranges and grapefruit) contain healthier ratios of nutrients to sugar than common fruits such as apples, bananas, and grapes.

Note 2

Common modern fruits have been engineered to contain radically more sugar. Fruit juice should be avoided at all costs. Grape juice has 50% more sugar in it than Coke.

Note 3

Fruits and vegetables are NOT one food group. Fruits can be thought of a Non-Starchy Vegetables with much more sugar. For example, grapes have about nineteen times more sugar that spinach.

Step 3 of 6

SANE

Have Your SANE Cake and Eat It Too! & Do you practice safe sweeteners?

Listen

Note 1

Stick with zero to three low-sugar fresh or frozen servings per day. A serving is roughly the size of your fist. For instance, six strawberries, one orange, half a grapefruit, or three quarters of a cup of blueberries.

Note 2

Frozen berries are a great cost-saving option. Citrus is best bought in bulk. Stay away from canned fruits.

Note 3

More on this later, but SANEity isn’t about avoiding sweets. It’s about avoiding inSANEity. Therefore, you can absolutely enjoy these SANE natural sweeteners (easy to get in your SANEStore): stevia, luo-han guo, erythritol, and xylitol.

Step 4 of 6

Quiz

Remember these? Give them one more try now that you’ve spent a few minutes going SANE.

Q1

Going SANE means eating fewer sweets.

True

Try again.

False

Correct! Going SANE means eating different sweets. Treats made with coconut flour, almond flour, cocoa and nuts, and sweetened with natural non-caloric sweetners such as stevia, luo-han guo, erythritol, and xylitol are scrumptious and SANE! More on this later.

Q2

If you have struggled with your weight for a long time, studies show that you are more likely to lower your set-point if you favor whole-food fats over low-fructose fruits.

True

Correct! As a general rule, the heavier you are, the better off you are with whole-food fats instead of low-fructose fruits. If you are extremely clogged, even the small amount of sugar in berries and citrus can slow your set-point-lowering efforts.

False

Try again.

Q3

Low-Fructose Fruits make a great snack.

True

Try again.

False

Correct! Eating either Low-Fructose Fruits or Whole-Food Fats by themselves can cause problems if your metabolism is clogged. Try to make sure you also eat Non-Starchy Vegetables and Nutrient-Dense Protein when you eat Low-Fructose Fruits or Whole-Food Fats.
